James B Stewart

James Buchanan Stewart 1883-1916 was the oldest son of JBS.  He married Elizabeth Brown on 8th December 1905 at the Town Hall, New Cumnock.  He was a miner and a member of the Territorial Army who was called up at the outbreak of the 1st World War.   He was killed in action at Ypres in 1916.  He left his wife Elizabeth and five children.

George Sanderson wrote a book on the History of New Cumnock.  The chapter on The Great War records the death of many New Cumnock men including James Buchanan Stewart.
