Henry Stewart was a coal miner and married Henrietta Wilson on 7th April 1905. He was also the caretaker at Dalleagles Primary School and I understand he lived at the schoolhouse at Dalleagles. He emigrated to the United States in 1909 and his family followed in 1910. He returned to Scotland on a visit in the 1950’s.
This photo was taken on the 50th wedding anniversary of Henry and Henrietta.

Henry Stewart returned to New Cumnock in the early 1950’s. Although I was only a small boy at the time, I do remember that it was an important event. I remember that Uncle Henry had an accident after arriving by getting his thumb shut in a car door and had what looked to a small boy like a large bandage on his thumb. As his return was an important event a family bus trip was arranged to Loch Lomond.
The trip to Loch Lomond.
